Q: Is it ok to do the 5 day cleanse if I am on iron pills to bring my iron levels up?
A: The Revive 5-Day Colon Cleanse does not require fasting and each individual can incorporate it into their daily routine so it is unlikely to do any harm while maintaining their iron supplemental intake.
Q: Is there any reason why my periods are heavier during cleanse? Sometimes I get an extra one. I know it has to do with cleansing. There's nothing wrong with me (been checked out, my Dr. days just don’t do it) I am 45 pre-menopausal.
A: This requires knowing what type of cleanse and if there is fasting involved. During this time you are of course losing iron and if fasting with low dietary intake for absorption of iron then the period is "heavier." The human body's rate of iron absorption responds differently to a variety of individual factors, including the up taking of iron and storing it.
The other factor is that the bone marrow most likely cannot produce enough red blood cells so when fasting combined with periods the body absorbs less iron during times of "interrupted" intestinal absorption. Low absorption of iron in the duodenum of the intestine means that more iron gets into the gut and more harmful bacteria can thrive on iron and cause infections.
I think that is the doctors concern so if you continue taking your iron supplement but is not fasting with the 5 day cleanse then I suspect little disruption. Same is true with our other cleanse kits where I would caution a 100% fasting regime and continue to take their iron supplement.
